The basic principles for designing wire rope are full of circular cross section, low wear rate of wire surface, slow initiation and expansion rate of microcracks, low corrosion rate, moderate flexibility, concentric layer retaining a certain gap and high production efficiency. When designing the structure of the wire rope, the circular cross-section wire is filled as the basic principle, and the density coefficient of the wire rope is increased as much as possible to ensure that the wire rope can withstand the greatest possible tension and give full play to the mechanical properties of the wire rope.

In order to achieve the purpose of low wear rate on the surface of the wire, specific measures that can be taken include selecting grease suitable for the use environment, coating materials that can protect the surface of the wire, and matching the hardness of the contacting wires. Among them, coating technology is an important technical means to prevent the micro-wear of the wire. The coating material should be firmly combined with the wire matrix, wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant. The coating only needs a relatively thin thickness to achieve the ideal protection effect. The breaking tension of the wire rope cannot be reduced due to the use of the coating material. The coating material must be able to bend and deform to a certain extent with the wire, and cannot fall off from the wire matrix during repeated bending and deformation.

As far as the actual situation of the current steel wire rope manufacturing industry is concerned, manganese phosphating coated steel wire rope has the best fatigue resistance among the steel wire ropes with the same structure, and its fatigue life far exceeds that of smooth steel wire rope. Coated steel wire rope is an upgraded product of smooth steel wire rope. The point-line composite structure is not only applicable to the strand rope structure, but also to the steel wire rope structure.
